On-Screen to Reality

cluelessAs humans in the 21st Century, it is most natural to have T.V/film in our modern livelihoods.

So, as a person who has grown up around television with my parents influences of Soap Drama’s, Emmerdale was a particular favourite in my household. For those of you who can relate to this, who can forget Matthew King’s big day, which, being a soap opera, had to have a dramatic yet convenient disruption, or others may say ‘death’.
Yet, I don’t think this has inspired my own wedding day to go along those events….  Instead, films are the real influences for weddings. They tend to capture the romance (in the end) by having one huge roller coaster journey through the up-coming events of the wedding, that challenges both groom and bride. But more than likely ends in joy and happiness as somebody comes to the rescue to make one spectacular wedding that make our hearts melt, causing floods of soppy tears and scrunched-up tissues all over the floor. (And then a feeling of despair with a pinch of pathetic sighs as we can’t believe we just cried our bodies dry over a film. Yet we’ll do it again the following week).

Here are some unforgettable wedding scenes from films that will spark recognition in your mind:

1. Love Actually
I don’t think there is anyone who can say they haven’t seen this or at least heard of it. It’s heart-warming ending is too amazing to forget. With a surprise like that, I can’t see why any of us should want our own big day to be like that.

2. BridesmaidsThis film may not be as lovey-dovey as our first example, but after all the tears of laughter, we can honestly wipe them away and root for the wedding finale. This film is a prime example of a roller-coaster journey through the eyes of the Maid of Honor, and how things can clash between the roles of bridesmaids.

3. Mamma Mia
I couldn’t not include a musical into this category, and Mamma Mia fits perfectly. With the distress of stress getting to the bride for admittedly, issues you probably won’t encounter in real life. It is one of those wedding films that with a good storyline and some musical numbers, the wedding comes together just in time for the set date. However, even then there is a twist. And who can fault a film with Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and Julie Walters?

4. Sex and the City
This film gives various different takes of love. With plenty of ups and downs and crude but cute scenes. The two main characters who go through this all and even after all the pain love has thrown on them, they have their happy ending despite everything. But then again, the man involved is called ‘Big’… I suppose women do like their men tall and handsome.

5. My Best Friend’s WeddingA film that reflects upon normal life as two child-hood best friends make a pact that they’ll get married at a certain age if neither have found anyone else. This actually happens in real life! So many of my friends say stuff like this yet we all know it isn’t going to happen but in this film, it has the potential. This film shows how having your best friend contribute to your wedding isn’t always the best idea… But that’s just to make the film what it is. Of course you want your best friend there!

I didn’t even include the real classics that hold the key to activate our emotions… One liners from films such as: 10 Things I Hate About You, The Wedding Singer, Pretty Woman and so on.
I’m quite confident that you, yourselves have a list of films in your mind that have rekindled during this blog post.

So, my advise for when it comes to wedding inspiration? Buy yourself a membership on Netflix and watch countless streaming of love-filled films. (Or sign up for a free month, cram them all in and quickly delete. Not that I am suggesting anything unlawful…)

Thanks for reading. It’s been a pleasure to dive into a montage of love films to start my week of work.
