Choosing Your Wedding Songs

Choosing Your Wedding Songs

Marvin Humes of 'The JLS' proposed recently, my money is on NDubz classic 'Na Na' for the first dance!

Hi folks,

The Outhere Brothers are probably not going to make the shortlist for your choice of first dance, but could it slot in anywhere else?

This week we wanted to ponder a question that almost all couples have/will ponder during their preparation for their big day, what songs should we have for our wedding?

Wedding songs are hugely important to your day and set the tone and atmosphere of the event. They need to reflect your feelings for one another, appeal to your likes and dislikes and, just as importantly, appeal to the audience; both young and old.

At MWV HQ, we had a debate and, with our diverse taste in music, came up with some options to help couples decide on the apt tunes for their day.

There are many times of the day when a song can be appropriate: wedding dinner , ceremony, party songs, father/daughter dance and last dance.

This is without: bouquet throwing songs, garter tossing songs and (I can imagine a bit of Kenny G is high up this list) honeymoon night songs.

What song would Adele choose for her wedding song? What? Surely not?!

We have chosen our top contemporary beats and some traditional ballads for first dances, hopefully these will quench your thirst for musical satisfaction (although it goes without saying Etta James ‘At Last’, standard 🙂

Adele – Make You Feel My Love

Lionel Richie  and Diana Ross – Endless Love

Eric Clapton – Wonderful Tonight

Savage Garden – Truly, Madly Deeply

Amazing Grace – John Newton

Richard M S Irwin -Give Me Joy In My Heart

Elvis – Can’t Help Falling In Love

Whitney Houston – I Will Always Love You

Robbie Williams – Angels

Elton John – Your Song

Faithless – We Come One

Smashing Pumpkins – Tonight Tonight

Foo Fighters – The Best Of You

Kings Of Leon – Sex On Fire

Joe – I Wanna Know

Joy Division – Love Will Tear Us Apart

Nirvana – Heart Shaped Box

Brian McKnight – Love Of My Life

Rolling Stones – Wild Horses

Scatman John – Scatman (just checking you’re still with us, although could be interesting)

A lot of people will be having Bruno Mars ‘Marry You’ and Dixie Cup’s classic ‘Going To The Chapel’ and we don’t blame them, but wouldn’t it make a welcome change to hear the rocking Black Sabbath blasting out ‘Heaven And Hell’ as the bride walks down the aisle?

What songs were a must-play at your wedding? Were there any tunes that you forbid your DJ from playing?

We filmed and edited the awards, hosted by Rob Deering, which was great fun.  We met lots of great people in the wedding industry and made lots of new friends.

Drinks were flowing, and as the night went on and the giraffe luge was ‘utilised’, dance moves were unleashed.

We would like to thank our friends at for their continued support.

Are you a Kate Middleton or a Kim Kardashian bride?

Are you a Kate Middleton or a Kim Kardashian bride?

Kev here… I’m a first-time blogger on our website so be gentle….

Have Hello! magazine been on the phone about your wedding?

After doing a few wedding fayres already this year at St Johns Hotel in Solihull (which is featured in an upcoming Superscrimpers programme on Channel 4), and yesterday at The Belfry, I started to ponder upon the question: When is the ideal time to start planning for your big day? Or to get closer to the point, is it more expensive to plan two years in advance?

Many of the people I spoke to yesterday were already hunting around for ideas for their wedding in 2014.  Is this not a case of being ‘too organised’ or is it sensible?

My initial thinking was, that they were highly organised (something I am not when it comes to my personal life), and that they were merely ahead of the game. This in turn provoked me to think, ‘surely they will spend more money than those who are getting married in a couple of months’?

(This isn’t a dig at anyone as I don’t want this to end due to the business we are in, don’t get me wrong. But on the same strength, another bride and groom that I spoke to were getting married in May and had nothing booked.)

Obviously the venue, suits, wedding dresses, cake etc  are a given; but with the ‘luxury’ things around at the moment such as: photo booths, videographers (including us), fireworks, magicians, string quartets (the list goes on), it is hard to say no to a lot of them.

Is it a case of ‘whats another £1,000 when we’re spending x amount of money already’?

Not all bride and grooms are as lucky* as Kim Kardashian, Myleene Klass or  even Prince William and Kate Middleton who planned quite extensively (and for whom money is no object), but where does the spending end?

*Unless we all do what Kim Kardashian did and actually (reportedly) make a profit from the wedding

This is the other extreme and even I (being a disorganised typical guy) had palpitations at the thought and told them to come back to us after visiting the other stands!

These are two very different cases, but out of the two, who will spend less and probably have the same amount of entertainment and more importantly ‘their’ day?

We were reluctant to get involved with Superscrimpers when they were at the fayre because of the nature of the program, but will this have any effect on the views of brides and grooms, or just be another thing on the list to worry about before the big day?

I think that there needs to be a fine balance between early and too early (and massively late). Obviously with the high demand for quality venues, that needs to be first on the list as you might be disappointed if you leave that too late. The rest can wait for a little while or you might end up gaining a life partner and losing your house 🙂

I can honestly say that the wedding industry is providing a great service to the UK and has been for a number of years. Long may it continue and think about this when you’re booking our services for your big day 😉

Celebrity Weddings / Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s Divorce

True love?

Russell Brand divorces Katy Perry because ‘he missed single life’

Not so much 7 year itch, more of a 7 week itch.. I bet Russell Brand’s had longer itches he’s had STD doctors prescribe antibiotics for..

I hear Katy perry wrote ‘firework’ about Russell. Ironically fireworks hang around longer!

And then there’s Alex Reid (better known as Jordan’s transvestite ex) marrying Chantelle Houghton (better known as, er, pass).

These two married after ‘an instant connection’ AKA a phone call between their agents. Cynical? What me? Yeah.

Then there’s the flip side; Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas.. He’s not just twice her age, he’s twice her age in dog years; she’ll have to cut his foot off and count the rings to calculate his true age.

But against all of the odds those two are one of the strongest couples in Hollywood and I applaud that.

Or happily married?

So I suppose what I’m trying to say is around all the cynicism, PR spin and opportunist sham marriages I believe not all celeb marriages are a ploy.
Love can exist and remain strong even between two ‘celebrity’ A listers ‘Til death do they part’.

Unless Angelina Jolie pouts her erotic lips in the husband’s direction. Then they’re doomed.

Except Michael Douglas. His vision’s not what it was..

Wedding Ideas Awards

On January 13th 2012 Team MWV made the trip down to the capital to The Brewery to take part in their first Wedding Ideas Awards ceremony.

Being relative newcomers to the wedding industry compared to some of the heavy hitters and veterans taking part in the night it was a massive privilege to be involved.

Upon arrival we checked in to our hotel and quickly downed a calming beer; we had planned on a proper lunch but time being pressing a Mars bar and rushed noodle box had to suffice.

We then headed down to the Brewery.. Seemingly hard to locate.. ‘It’s there Kev by the giant Brewery Sign’ to meet the lovely staff we were to liaise with for the evening. Not so much into the lions den but the Giraffes, er, den? We met the famous ‘Giraffe Herd’ and ran through our remit for the evening. ‘Winners and Sponsors backstage’ Awesome stuff; and then back to the hotel to prepare. (No time for another beer..)

After a couple of showers, a long hair drying session (kev and seth) and a quick head buffing session (PJ) we arrived at the venue and set up for the evening with a calming beer (and complimentary cocktail)

The rest of the evening was filled with massively enjoyable banter with the all star cast at our dinner table (@rachelshoes, @wersha @mcjadeyp, Richard and Julian from Alfred Angelo) and after figuring out how to open the beautifully packaged mints it was back to work..

Many interviews and a few hilarious unintentional soundbites later (i won best breast!) it was time to have a few drinks and get to know our peers. All was calm and civilised until we met the Giraffe Vodka Luge; As they say the rest is history!

Needless to say we enjoyed celebratory drinks with a select few until the early hours and had a fantastic time chatting to all the wonderful nominees and wedding related companies that were kind enough to engage us in drunken chit chat (after the work was finished, obviously!)

So with a heavy heart and a sore head we said goodbye to London Town and back to Brum with nothing but wonderful memories.. and five hours of giraffe footage to flawlessly edit(Kev wishes!)

Some stills from our footage for your enjoyment, be sure to add us on twitter @musicweddingvid and Facebook

We’d like to say a big thanks to Rachel the Wedding Ideas Magazine Mastermind and all the wonderful staff- including the fine gentlemen who probably often get overlooked for thanks due to the gorgeous ladies!

Last word: We’re already working on our gracious loser faces/ecstatic winner faces for our many nominations at next years awards (It’ll be hard to notice as we’ll all be highly successful and botox headed by then!)
Thats the dream for us anyway, if not it’ll be a pleasure just to be invited..

Dan & Gemma Brock’s Music Wedding Video – “Dirty Bit / The Time” by Black Eyed Peas

Dan & Gemma Brock were married at the Fairlawns Hotel in Sutton Coldfield on 25th August 2011. After a brief consultation they settled on ‘Dirty Bit’ as it’s such a good party tune for people of any age and has a great video which we would be able to replicate, involving all of the guests without taking up too much of anyone’s time. Lee, the best man, impressed us all (and the ladies!) with his rapping scene in the middle of the video.

Thanks to everyone for being such great sports.
